G2 9'0" 6-wt 3.0 oz 4-piece
This is a better choice for nymphing than the 8'8" model in this series. It's long enough to provide plenty of reach and offer terrific feel for detecting subtle takes.

I own and extensively fish a SCOTT G2 886/4 fly rod (a marvel in graphite, made by the SCOTT Custom Fly Rod Shop and purchased through Telluride Angler). Recently I had the chance to cast and fish the sister model (ADH Fishing, Peine, Germany) that is in the normal SCOTT offering: the G2 6 weight in 9ft length (3 oz). I was first sceptical a bit as I do prefer 8.6ft over 9ft rods. When putting the G2 906/4 together I noticed that it feels lighter compared to the 886/4 model (that in actuality is 2.9 oz). The 906 is an ultra smooth casting fly rod at all distances up to 70 ft. It mends and roll casts fine here as well. I tried several lines and this rod works like a dream with the Airflo Ridge Impact WF6F fly line. The SA Sharkwave Ultimate Trout WF6F and the ORVIS Superfine WF6F are also good here. The blank flexes deeper when casting a longer line and shoots the line with a good spped. The feel of the G2 906/4 when a fish takes a fly is even more subtle compared to the 886/4. The G2 906 is sensitive, accurate and strong together. Perfect for nymphing. For very large and heavily leaded trout streamers and sinking lines the RADIAN in 906 is better. But for all other flies this rod is truly universal and I highly recommend it.

The G2 906-4 was a pleasure from the first cast to the last. I own the 884-4 and was expecting a similar rod in the 6 weight version. I was pleased to find a whole new sensation when I threw this rod. It still has the unbeatable feel that the G2 series is known for, but this rod has some unexpected power behind it. It's a very easy casting rod that performs extremely well up close as well as at a distance. The G2 906-4 is a killer rod that is nothing short of excellent.

The G2 906-4 is a powerful fly rod with a very different action from the Radian, Sage ONE and Sage Method. Easy casting, smooth and precise, I would highly recommend the G2 906-4 for casters who want a 6-weight that emulates the feel of lighter rods. If you have a long casting stroke, it will throw the whole line with easy. I prefer a pure fast action rod (like the Radian or ONE) for streamers, but find certain advantages in moderate-action 6-weights when nymphing. Open loop casting comes more naturally with the G2 906-4 than faster rods. This really helps form a casting loop with two nymphs, lead and a strike indicator. The G2 is also flat out superior for roll casting and mending, both critical techniques in nymphing. Finally, I have to say that the feel and touch of the G2 906-4 is the best I've ever experienced in a 6-weight. This is a surprising fly rod.

The Scott G2 906/4 is one of my favorite rods. It is a great big water dry fly rod in addition to being a good nymph rod. While this rod will throw streamers, this is not my favorite application for a moderate action 6 weight. What I mainly use this rod for is a drift boat rod, throwing hopper droppers and other large dry flies and at this it excels. The G2 rods are light weight and the 9 footers generate very good line speed and will get my fly on target even in the wind. If you like 6 weight rod with "feel" then the G2906/4is for you.
