In September 2008, Simms announced the phase out of all felt-soled wading boots by 2010 to combat the spread of invasive waterborne organisms such as Whirling Disease spores, New Zealand mud snails and didymo. In partnership with Vibram, Simms has developed an exclusive grippy rubber sole called StreamTread that provides superb traction and does not transport microorganisms.

Vibram StreamTread soles offer the following advantages:

2) StreamTread soles offer superior traction on rock, dirt, snow and ice, "4-Wheel Drive for your feet."
